Residents in Fareham are being invited to learn potentially lifesaving CPR as Everyone Active brings free demonstrations to the town centre on Friday 16 October to mark Restart a Heart Day.
The Fareham Leisure Centre team will host free, drop-in CPR workshops from 10am to 4pm underneath the bandstand on the pedestrianised area of West Street in Fareham town centre, giving members of the public the opportunity to learn and practise essential CPR skills.
Open to everyone, the workshops aim to help people develop the knowledge and confidence to provide assistance in an emergency.
Restart a Heart Day is an annual initiative led by Resuscitation Council UK, which aims to equip people with the skills and confidence to respond when someone suffers a cardiac arrest.
Fareham Leisure Centre is managed by Everyone Active, acting as an agent for Fareham Borough Council. The centre has one defibrillator on site inside the building.
Ryan Grant, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said:
“Leisure centres play an important role in their local communities, and we’re always looking for opportunities to help people develop skills that could one day save a life.
“By taking our CPR workshop into Fareham town centre, we hope to reach people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn these valuable skills. Everyone is welcome to stop by, get involved and find out more about how they could help someone in an emergency.”
Cllr Frair Burgess, Executive Member for Leisure and Community, added:
“It is so important that as many people as possible know how to perform CPR. We all hope never to need it, but it could make the difference between life and death in an emergency situation. This initiative from Everyone Active is a fantastic opportunity to learn these lifesaving skills for free so I really encourage anyone interested to drop in to one of the town centre workshops on 16 October.”
The free, drop-in CPR workshops will take place in Fareham town centre on Friday 16 October, from 10am to 4pm. No booking or leisure centre membership is required.
