Sunday lunch at The Mansion at Coldeast

The Mansion at Coldeast is a hotel and restaurant, on nine acres of landscaped grounds and woodland, perfectly located near the Hamble River.

Judging by the posts on social media, it’s been incredibly successful since its launch, so we visited the restaurant, Becketts at The Mansion for Sunday lunch in a pod in the gardens!

The newly renovated building is looking fantastic, classic manor house which is lit up beautifully at night.

We booked a pod in the gardens of the Mansion and although you can eat inside, ‘pod dining’ is an experience in itself with great views, cosy heating, and gentle music playing through a speaker.

All six of us opted for a Sunday roast – how could you not?

Roast beef, pork loin and chicken were on the menu, served on a gigantic sharing board where you can help yourself to meat, red cabbage, greens, honey-glazed parsnips, and yorkies (the best part of a roast if you ask me).

We also ordered a side of the cauliflower cheese and pork crackling, which they call ‘piggy bits’!

But, if you are a vegetarian, there’s a vegetable, spinach and mushroom wellington which looked delicious.

The food was beautiful, and if I had one small criticism it’s that there was so much of it!

There’s always room for dessert though, and it was sticky toffee puddings all round – which definitely hit the spot. But if you’re more of a savoury person, we’ve heard the selection of cheeses they offer is excellent.

If you choose to book a pod and it’s best to book in advance, there is a £200 minimum spend on Sundays, but this doesn’t seem extortionate if you visit with 4-5 others and share a bottle or two.

Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to return to try the brunch and visit the gin bar!
