A walk around the River Hamble
We challenged Susan Nelson from Instagram’s greeneyegallery to suggest a walk around the River Hamble – and she didn’t disappoint!
For more walking routes from Susan, check her out on Instagram.
Start at the Clock Tower in the centre of Warsash village. Walk up Brook Lane then take a left along Brook Avenue. This road has no footpath so take care on this single track avenue.
Watch out for deer in the fields on the right-hand side!
At the end of the road take the path down to the River Hamble shoreline. Before leaving check out the tides because at high tide you won’t be able to cross the marshy bunny meadows to the raised gravel path along the river.
This is a great place to look for winter birds scavenging in the mud for food. Walk along the river bank towards the bright pink ferry shelter then onto Passage Lane to the Harbour Masters office. The hill of Shore Road is lined by pretty fishing cottages.
Heading back to the village you could reward yourself with a coffee at High Tides cafe and look at the local art in the windows of Harding’s Picture Framing. You will now be back at the Clock Tower, which was originally a water tower for the village.
